This course and text are about and introduction to school administration. For some of you this is your first course in administration, for others it is not. Regardless of what class this is for you, describe your expectations for yourself as you enter the role of school leader.
My expectations is to find out how I can become that leader that needs to be out front and personal with all the people that I would be working with. I hope to see different strategies and organizational techniques that will help me along the journey to becoming a leader of my school division.
ReplyDeleteI hope to become a leader that is trustworthy, respectful, and has good rapport with faculty. I want to be an administrator that is focused on the results, the processes, AND the people that are involved. I want to work WITH people to achieve the results and the vision of the school/school division.
ReplyDeleteI would like to become a very accessible leader - Accessible to students and to faculty/staff alike. Knowing what is going on in my school and being able to tap everybody involved for advice will help me be able to make the most informed decisions. I would also like to promote my school and take a more active part in the community. Creating an environment where the town is around the school is a great learning environment.
ReplyDeleteI want to be a leader who is present throughout the school and not just shut in my office. I want to develop a shared vision and work with all stakeholders as we move toward that vision. I would like to create a bond between the school and community so that we are one entity striving for the same goals. I want to never stop learning and always remain open to new ideas.

ReplyDeleteI want to be a leader who is respected. I believe in order to get respect, you must also give it to others. I also want to be a leader who is considered to be honest and fair. Too often, leaders are said to play favorites and I do not want to be one like that.
ReplyDeleteI hope that all of these leadership classes will help me to further develop my own personal philosophy of education and administration.
I have a lot of expectations for myself. I want to lead by example and be an instructional leader within the school and community. I would also like to work side-by-side with the staff and community to make our school be the community hub. I believe that by fulfilling these expections and more I will be a respected and successful leader.
ReplyDeleteI am a stay-at-home mom who has been out of the teaching field, now, for over 12 years. I have spent these 12 years trying to instill into my own children to set their standards high; to have high morals and values, to take responsibility for who they are and the actions they take, but most of all to stand up and become the leaders that are within them.
ReplyDeleteI am a firm believer that we must lead by example. We cannot expect others to want to follow if we are not leading with integrity ourselves.
I have set some high standards for myself. I want to show myself and my children that I can become a leader. I want to do it with integrity. I want to succeed in this program because I would like to have the opportunity to empower others to become even better than they once thought they could be.
I am hoping this class will allow me to gain enough information (strategies) to use as I become a principal. I would like to be as my grandmother taught me to be -- have high morals and respect for others in any job I go about.
ReplyDeleteEven though I am pretty far in the program there are still things that I would like to learn more about and study on some more. Some of the expectations that I have for myself are overall being an effective school leader. I want to be able to pay attention to the small things that exist in administration and be able to balance my time that is meeting all the schools needs. I also want to be able to work with a good school community that will in some way or another benefit from me as a leader.
ReplyDeleteI hope to develop a backbone. I am often concerned with making everyone happy and that sways my view of what I professionaly feel needs to be done. I have found that it is impossible to make everyone happy. I need to not let all issues be personal to me.
ReplyDeleteA goal I have for myself is to be an effective administrator for my students AND my staff. I want to be firm, but fair and be able to meet the needs of my school, no matter what they are. I want to make my school a place where students, parents, and community members feel safe, welcome, and important.
ReplyDeleteI want to be able to develop a strong vision that is effective for my school, staff, and students. I also want to make my school feel welcoming and safe for anyone that enters it. Lastly, I want to be able to manage my time wisely in order to spend time on all of my responsibilties and be a well-rounded leader.
ReplyDeleteI believe in being a life long learner. I thought I was finished going to school after I graduated with a BS in education way back when. Then I got a job teaching and found out I had to take course work. I've been taking classes ever since. I did think I was finished with school a few years back, but here I am again.
ReplyDeleteIn my case, I took a job as a Principal and was asked by my employer to work on my license, so that's what I'm doing here. I have learned a lot already, not just for my current position, but also about how other folks I have work with did things (good and bad) over the years. The nice part is, I can put things from the class into action immediately, or use things to help improve my school that I would not have known about without the class materials.
As I progress through this program, I would like to develop knowledge, skills, and practice in being an effective educational leader. I hope to strengthen my ability to be a leader that promotes the growth and development of students and teachers. I would also like to learn how to make strong connections and communication with parents and members of the community.
ReplyDeleteI hope to be an instructional leader that will always have the best interest of the children in mind when making decisions. It is important to me to learn strategies that will help me be successful as a leader. My belief is that managers make you do things and good leaders make you want to do things. I hope that no matter what the situation that I will lead the vision of the school in a consistent and equitable manner.
ReplyDeleteI strive to be an approachable leader who is not afraid to get the input of her staff and faculty on policies and procedures set forth in my vision. I strive to be fair, honest, and compassionate.
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost I expect to do what is best for my students and never loose sight of that regardless of the situation. I have taken enough classes to realize that there are several situations that can cause the best administrators to loose sight of our students due to the complexities of the job. In order for the students to remain the number one priority I would place high, but not unrealistic, expectations on myself as well as the faculty and staff. In order to meet these expectations I would want to be the administrator who leads by example with a relentless work ethic, has an open door policy for students, faculty, and staff, and offers as much support and encouragement possible.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading Chapter 3 of our book, The Principalship, which makes me reflective about what kind of leader I believe I am growing into. I definitely believe that I will operate often as a "scruffie," using the knowledge I have gained and the experiences I have had together intuitively. As a leader, I truly believe I will always place the children I am charged with first, and this will be the driving force of all of my decisions. Lastly I believe that the building of relationships will be imperative as a future school administrator.
ReplyDeleteI would like to be a school leader who is not only respected and appreciated, but is also approachable. I feel that building a school community is the most important thing because that community encompasses as stake holders. A school community cannot be established and cannot grow if the school leader is not approachable.
ReplyDeleteI want to become a school leader who is open minded to my staff and ready to help them achieve the goals and vision of the school. At the same time, I want to be firm and consistent to also help achieve the goals and vision of the school. I want to learn how to walk that fine line to be the best administrator that I can be!
ReplyDeleteI want to try to become a respected and successful school leader as well as be a positive role model for the students and staff I lead. I am hoping through this course and the program that I can develop and refine my skills to be an effective school leader.
ReplyDeleteIn my experiences thus far, respected administrators are those who are consistent, involved, and genuine. As a future administrator, I hope to exhibit all of those qualities along with having the best interest of the students, faculty, and learning community's at heart.
ReplyDeleteMy goal is to become an effective leader for my staff and students. I plan to be consistent and open and also be open to all stakeholder's opinions in promoting the success of all students.

As with my current job I always set high expectations for myself. I believe if I have a hard work ethic and hold myself to high standards and morals that it is easier to expect the same from others. I have grown in so many ways the past year with classes, but I would hope that I continue to grow as a person and a leader for the betterment of the students and faculty in years to come.
ReplyDeleteAs I prepare to be an administrator, I really want to gain the knowlegde necessary to be a good leader and follower. My plans are to be consistent, visible and respectful to the school community. I want the staff to feel appreciated and the students to know that I have high expectations for their success.
ReplyDeleteI hope to become an administrator that is able to balance instructional leadership and management within a school. I hope to have high and fair expectations for faculty, staff, and students.
ReplyDeleteAs I enter into the role of being a school leader my expectations is to be able to be approachable—meaning I want to be viewed as person that all stakeholders that are involved in a childs life can communicate* with and trust* and have great management and instructional leadership skills .
ReplyDelete*Communicate-share ideas, discuss situations, and build a relationship that allows us to have a mutual understanding that we are here to benefit the child.
*Trust- is to be viewed as honest, reliable, and legitimate.
School leadership is fluid and has changed quite a bit during my 50+ years of life. The education of school leaders has progressed light years ahead of what is actually taking place in school districts.
ReplyDeleteTherefore, I wish to be able to realistically bridge between these two worlds, that which is being taught in universities, and that which is functioning in school systems today.
I want to widen and deepen my knowledge and understanding of the field. Through this, I might find the right fit for myself as a school leader.
So, it is really three aspects that I want to evaluate: that being taught in this course, that which I percieve to be actually taking place in school divisions, and those qualities in myself that will support or hinder my work as a leader in schools.
I am almost finished with the program however I see myself as a teacher and then an administrator. I hope I can pick up on the small things that make a big difference in a school. I have realized and learned throughout this program that the job of an administrator is a much more in depth one than I ever imagined. I want to be able to communicate efficiently with my peers and with other stakeholders in my future jobs.

As a leader, my goal is to get to know my staff, and use their talents and skills in the areas that are needed. I believe that each staff member has something to contribute to the operation of a school. I will strive to maintain a good work relationship with teachers, parents, and the community for support to the students. Also, I will help teachers improve their teaching skills by providing on-going opportunities for them to learn new teaching methods and strategies that will help increase SOL scores so that no child is left behind.
ReplyDeleteMy goal is to mesh together my uniqueness as an educational leader and the ISLCC standards to foster an environment that is condusive for productive learning. I want my teachers, parents, and most of all, students to feel empowered in the success of school through our vision. I want to be able to evaluate my teachers without being judgemental. Lastly, I hope to keep my passion for student learning burning!
ReplyDeleteBeing an administrator I will face many challenges. Learning ways to overcome and how to deal and react to those challenges will be critical. A goal of mine is to build relationships inside and outside of the school. This will help in getting everyone invovled to buy into the program.
ReplyDeleteI hope to be a positive role model for all faculty, staff and students that I will lead. I want to use successful research-based strategies to meet the needs of all teachers and children. It is my goal to instill a love of teaching in all teachers and a love of learning for all students. I want to create a safe, loving environment where all stakeholders feel welcome and secure.
ReplyDeleteI hope to be an instructional leader that can effectively collaborate with other educators to insure a positive and successful school experience for all students in my school. I also want to encourage teachers to place emphasis on educating the "whole child", keeping in mind that guiding children in developing character skills and being involved in their community is important along with traditional academics.
ReplyDeleteThroughout this class, I hope to learn more about myself and the type of leader I will be. Additionally, I hope to learn how to be an effective leader. I want to learn effective practices and strategies to lead a school into the future of education. I want to be able to share my passion and experience with others.
ReplyDeleteMy expectations for myself as a school leader have slightly changed as I have read some of the material in the various courses. Effective practices are important components of a successful school. Social interaction is important for the staff to come together as a team. I find the "climate" of each school very interesting and hopefully my dedication will show through in my future school.
ReplyDeleteAs a school leader, I expect to be a positive role model for teachers, students, and parents. I look forward to being effective, organized, and doing what is best for the students.
ReplyDeleteI want to be able to look closer into the intricacies of leadership and have the ability to apply what I have read and used in the case study work to give me the framework needed to be a effective adminstrator. The course work has given me the tools and strategies that I can use during the freshmen stages of my administrative work in the future.

As an administrator, I would truly love to be seen as an instructional leader. I want to be the type of leader who others can respect and also feel comfortable with when discussing any problems they have. I want to be approachable ...
ReplyDeleteMaintaining integrity while doing the job is really important to me. For me, integrity equates to a peace of mind. Doing what I know is right, allows me to rest well at night. I see so many administrators lose their integrity in order to gain passing scores, control, and prestige.
ReplyDeleteI generally set expectations high for myself and others that I work with. In the role of school leader I would expect to create a safe and effective learning environment for students and staff. I would have set rules for both staff and students and if those rules are not followed consequences would ensue. I would expect to be a leader that both staff and students look up to and can come to if they need anything. I would expect to meet and exceed goals set by myself and higher authorities. I would also expect myself to be a school and community leader as a principal should be.
ReplyDeleteI expect to be an instructional leader who fosters creativity and collaboration among the faculty to ensure the success and growth of each student. I expect to infect the staff with a sense of urgency and committment which will give them personal pride when students achieve their goals.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, my goal is to be an educational leader that can be an all around team player for a school and a community. One that can play every position on the ISSLC court. Have vision, culture, community, management, ethics, and then tie all of these things together. But really if you do all of these things you are ensuring the success of every student, and I believe that is all of our number one goal
ReplyDeleteAs a school leader, I want to be an advocate for the students. I want to be caring and compassionate to both students and staff. However, I realize that my ultimate loyalty will lie with the students.
ReplyDeleteAs a leader, I want to do the right things for my student /school community and for the community around us. I plan to place instructional and academic interests in the forefront of my school.
ReplyDeleteI also want to be fair. I want to know that even if some members of my faculty don't agree with a decision I make, they respect the fact that it was made fairly.
